Denver Man Gives Gift Of Life

Donor: 'A Life Is A Life'

A Denver man is showing the true spirit of Thanksgiving this week as he makes himself a stem cell donor for a woman he's never even met.

Sol Leftin spent Tuesday morning attached to a blood transfusion machine at Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital.

Before that, he endured five days of shots that left him feeling like he had the flu.

"It's not a walk in the park," he said.

Sol said he has no regrets. He knows he may be saving the life of a woman he doesn't even know.

Years ago, he submitted to a DNA cheek swab on behalf of the National Marrow Donor Registry.

Sol said he didn't think much about it until he received a phone call telling him he was a perfect match for a 32-year-old woman in another country.

Sol never hesitated.

He told 7NEWS, "A life is a life and if you get a chance, one time in your life to do something and save someone else's life, how can you say no?"

Around the world, there are only about 7 million names in the donor registry.

This is National Marrow Awareness Month, and you can contact the Bonfils Blood Center to find out how to take a very simple test and possibly save a life.
