Ablation Offers Relief For Some Women With Severe Periods

Ablation is the destruction of the lining of the uterus using heat, cold or electricity. Women with severe bleeding or cramping during menstruation, that is not related to pregnancy, infection or precancerous or cancers cells, would be candidates for ablation.The advantage of this procedure over traditional treatments is that it's relatively non-invasive, surgery is outpatient and recovery time is short. As with any procedure, pain, infection, bleeding complications or perforation of the uterus can occur. Recovery time is usually a few days, although there will be some light bleeding and discharge for several weeks.
