DENVER, Colo. -- For the second week in a row, the flu outbreak in Colorado is being listed as "widespread," and some flu sufferers are wondering if the vaccine is working.Marjorie Goody was diagnosed with the flu last week, which came as quite a surprise since she got the flu shot months ago.State officials say there have been seasons where the flu shot mix wasn't quite right, but they say testing shows this year's vaccine is a good match for this year’s virus.
It doesn’t work the same for everyone, though."My immune system is different than yours and my reaction to the vaccine could be different than yours. So that's why we also stress it's really important for everyone to receive the vaccine," said Margaret Huffman, influenza coordinator with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.Huffman said the flu shot is still the best way to prevent the flu, and that even if someone who gets the vaccine becomes ill, the shot will often reduce the severity.
