Naturopathic Doctor Says Some Foods Add Toxins To Your Body

High Fructose Corn Syrup, Partially Hydrogenated Oil Among Doctor's No-No List

For some people, no matter how hard they try to eat right and exercise, they often still suffer from fatigue and headaches.  When a doctor's checkup doesn't tell them anything is wrong, many just live with it.

But naturopathic physican Dr. Carrie Louise Daenell said the problem might be what you put in your mouth.

"If you turn the package over and read the label, you might find some key ingredients for all of us to avoid," said Daenell.

Daenell said ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oil are big no-no's.  She said added up over time, some ingredients can be toxic to your body so looking at labels carefully is key.

"I get respiratory sinus infections regularly about every 4 to 6 weeks," said 40-year-old Alexandra Hall.

Hall said Daenell changed her eating habits over a five-year period, and she now has more energy than ever before.

"You find high fructose corn syrup in foods you wouldn't expect to find in, like bread.  I never expected or thought my bread would be sweetened," said Hall.

In the process, Hall found out her body doesn't handle cow dairy products well.  She cut that out of her diet and ended up losing 40 pounds.

"I'm not perfect at it.  I eat sweets and things that I would characterize as junk food.  I just don't buy the junk food you pick up in the convenience store," said Hall.

But not everyone agrees with Daenell's views that some food ingredients being toxic.  Dr. Jennifer Hone from Rose Medical Center said, from a traditional doctor's view, there's no scientific evidence that shows specific ingredients in foods cause toxic buildup of any kind.

Both doctors do agree on one thing, that it's important to learn and understand more about what you're eating and how you're body reacts to certain foods.
