Day Two of 2007 U.S. Autism, Asperger Association International Conference

Day two of the U.S. Autism and Asperger Association’s International conference is coming to a close, and I’m looking back at what was an educational and information-driven day at the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center.

The day started off with a bang, with many world-renowned speakers including Dr. Lauren Underwood, Dr. Phillip DeMio, Dr. James Neubrander, and Stephen Shore, just to name a few. A standing ovation was given to Colorado’s own, Dr. Temple Grandin, an autistic individual herself, who is also a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University. Her humorous and educational speech had audience members engaged as she spoke about her personal experiences with autism.

I have ventured through many of the exhibits during these two days, and noticed the wide variety of new and improving treatments for people on the autism spectrum. Just recently I hopped into a portable mild hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Hyperbaric oxygen is used for medical issues such as burns and decompression sickness, and is currently being used as a treatment option in the autism spectrum of disorders.

Friday promises to have just as exciting of a line up of speakers and panels.

Walk up registration is still available. For more information please visit www.usautism.org
