Find Unique Experiences In Ohio Lodging

Choices Abound For More Than Just Roof Over Your Head

By Kassidy Emmerson, Contributing writer

Vacationers traveling through Ohio will find plenty of the motel and hotel chains that crisscross America. But visitors who are looking for "an experience" instead of just a roof over their heads might want to choose one of these attractive places to stay instead.

Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast

If you're looking for a peaceful place to stay where you can relax, give the Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast a try. According to www.atwoodlake.com, this country inn is located in Dellroy, a 90-minute drive south of Cleveland, 120 miles east of Columbus, and a 90-minute drive west of Pittsburgh.

The Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast overlooks the Atwood Lake. Besides taking in the captivating sight of the water, visitors can also enjoy picnics, hiking and aquatic sports. Or you can wander the grounds of the inn and breathe in the tranquility and beauty. There are flowers, streams, fish-filled ponds and waterfalls to enjoy.

Inside the Whispering Pines Bed & Breakfast, you will find comfortable accommodations that include whirlpool tubs, fireplaces and private balconies.

Hidden Trails Campground

If you want to stretch your Ohio vacation budget and sleep under the stars, you can choose the Hidden Trail Campground. Located in Beaver in the southeast part of the state, the campground offers spots to rent for RVs or tents.

The Hidden Trail Campground also offers some planned activities for paintball enthusiasts, as well as horseback riding, according to OhioCamper.com. You also can do some hunting in the area as long as permission is granted first. For nature lovers, this camp site has scenic trails to hike and bike on.

The Glidden House

Family-friendly places to stay aren't in short supply in Ohio. One of the finest establishments in the Cleveland area is The Glidden House. It's located less than two blocks from the Cleveland Museum of Art, according to Family.Go.com. You also can visit the Botanical Gardens and the Cleveland Museum of Natural Art, as well as experience a host of other things to see and do in the area.

The Glidden House offers its guests so many luxuries and complimentary items that you might just decide to stay in your room instead. It offers Internet access, cable TV, secure parking, dry cleaning service, room service and a restaurant.

The Lafayette Hotel

This place to stay in Ohio is located in Marietta. The Lafayette Hotel overlooks the Muskingum and Ohio rivers. It is the "last remaining riverboat era hotel," according to Bellhop.com. Although it's furnished with reproductions of antiques to maintain its sense of history, this hotel has modern-day amenities for its guests.

The Lafayette Hotel is conveniently located near the Fenton Art Glass Museum. It's also less than seven miles from the Mid Ohio Valley Regional Airport. Hotel visitors can be transported to the airport for free. Being near the Muskingum and Ohio rivers means that guests also have the opportunity to take a tour on the Valley Gem Sternwheeler steamboat, which operates from May to October.
