Stimulus Package Money To Weatherize Colo. Homes

Weatherization Assistance Program Could Bring Jobs, Save Families Money

Colorado families will receive nearly $130 million to make their homes more energy efficient as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Colorado Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet said Thursday that money for the state's Weatherization Assistance Program and energy program would create jobs through weatherization work and save families money on energy bills.

Under the programs, a family with an annual income up to double the federal poverty level -- or $44,000 for a family of four -- could receive an average of up to $6,500 for energy-efficient upgrades, including adding more insulation and modernizing heating and cooling systems.

Funding also would provide rebates for energy-saving home improvements and home energy audits. To learn more about the program, go to the Department of Energy Web site or the Governor's energy Office.
