Bean Bracelets Help Kids Celebrate

Kids might not be able to handle some of the spicier Mexican foods used to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and they certainly shouldn't drink anything with tequila in it, but simple jewelry inspired by traditional Mexican materials like silver and turquiose can help get them in the spirit.

You'll need:
  • Cardboard tube
  • Alumninum foil
  • Dried beans
  • Light blue/turquoise paint
  • Scissors
  • Glue

1. Paint beans blue to look like turquiose stones. If you want to skip this step and leave beans a natural color, that will work, too. That can be especially good if you have a variety of beans with different colors.

2. Glue foil to cardboard tube.

3. Cut tube into shorter lengths. Also, slit it so that it is no longer a tube.

4. Glue the beans onto the foil. Naturally, if you have sequins, beads or other decorations, they can be added as well.

5. Let dry. Use string to tie bracelet to children's arms.
