POSTED: 9:50 am MST March 30, 2004

Daniel Subra A new addition to a Des Moines family has made it a baker's dozen -- 13 kids.

Daniel Kevin Subra (pictured, left) was born Friday, and he was welcomed home Monday by 12 brothers and sisters and proud parents Kevin and Jane Subra.

The children range in age from Daniel, who is 4 days old, to a 21-year-old son in Texas who has a son of his own.

Steven Subra, 6, said he's more than happy to take on the role of big brother.

"I used to be the youngest boy, but now I'm not," Steven Subra said.

Jane Subra is the birth mother for all 13 kids and also home-schools them.

Kevin Subra said the more the merrier, even if a big family brings some minor hassles.

"If you go somewhere, it takes a little bit more planning than just hopping in the car. Going to grandma's, for instance, is a weeklong planning project, not something you do at the last minute," Kevin Subra said. Subra family

The Subras keep two refrigerators stocked to feed the brood and often use two washing machines and dryers to keep everyone in clean clothes.

Some of the Subra children admit they want big families of their own.

"I've always said I want eight boys to begin with," Hannah Subra, 20, said. "Boys are more fun."
