Sweet Nothings: How To Make Valentine Love Letters Special

Jan. 30, 2004

It really is nice to take a few minutes and write nice notes to those you care about, and Valentine's Day is the perfect time. If you're at a loss for words, check out Links2Love.com, a great Web site for appropriate quotes.

By presenting your notes in any of the ways shown below, your words seem all the more heart felt (get it?) since you went to extra trouble to present them.

And Valentine's Day can be about "like," just as much as romantic love. Write notes to anyone you appreciate. They'll never know how you feel unless you tell them!

What You Need:

For Letter in a Bottle:
  • Clean drink bottle (I used a Sobe bottle, which has impressed designs)
  • Red and pink nail polishes
  • Love letter printed or written on pink paper
  • Conversation hearts

For Love Puzzle:
  • Clear plastic box (a greeting card box is perfect)
  • Love letter or quote printed on pink or red card stock
  • Candy and heart shaped doily, if desired
  • Scissors

For Matchless Love:
  • Empty matchbox
  • Red acrylic paint
  • Scrap of gold paper
  • Fimo clay, red or pink
  • Candy mold
  • Red paper
  • Tacky glue

What to Do:

Letter in a Bottle:

1.Use nail polishes to paint hearts and dots on clean bottle. Paint bottle cap, too.

2.Write love letter on pink or red paper, then roll it in a cylinder and place it in the bottle. Add conversation hearts.

Love Puzzle:

1.Write love letter on colored card stock.

2.Cut up into puzzle pieces.

3.Place paper doily and or candies in box. Place puzzle pieces in box. Tie with ribbon.

Matchless Love:

1.Paint inside part of matchbox red.

2.Use candy mold or fingers to mold Fimo into a heart or flower. Bake according to directions on package.

3.Cover outside of box with decorative paper, glue flower on top. Let dry.

4.Cut strip of paper about 10” long, slightly narrower than inside of red part of matchbox. Write love letter on strip.

5.Glue end of strip inside bottom of red part of box, then roll strip up to fit into box. Slide paper covered part of box over red part of box.

And don't forget, if you've got questions or comments about this project or anything craft related, you can always email me at 11am@TheDenverChannel.com.
