Mars' DogBlog - Justice For Porsche
Chapter 49
November 9, 2010I was sound asleep under Marianne's desk at work today when I heard "....dog in the lobby."As you might imagine, that woke me right up. I barked. Twice.
"Mars, no! That is NOT YOUR JOB," Marianne scolded.I wagged my tail and tried to look winsome. I can't help it; I have a lot to say. I blame my dad, Blaze. He's a vocal guy, too."Can we go see the dog in the lobby?" I asked. Marianne sighed and grabbed my leash. I looked through the glass lobby doors and saw a beautiful brown dog smiling and greeting people.I barked "Hello!" and received a sharp correction from Marianne and another stern lecture about not barking. I pretended to listen. Blah, blah blah.....barking is a command, not an option.....yeah, yeah, OK, I get it.Anyhow, the big beautiful dog walked through the doors into the hallway and we wagged our tails at each other. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "Check your web site later," she said. "I have an interview right now," and she walked into the studio.I just now remembered to look at our website, and I found the story that 7News reporter Christin Ayers did. And I'm stunned.Sad.Angry.Confused.The beautiful dog's name is Porsche. She was found by the roadside by some Kansas troopers who thought she'd been hit by a car.She ended up in Denver at a local shelter called Nikeno’s Second Chances. The veterinarian who examined her, Dr. Christopher Blum, came to a different conclusion. He said Porsche's injuries were the result of being beaten with a baseball bat.I'm horrified. How can humans be so cruel? I don't understand. All the people I know are kind and gentle. This is beyond my comprehension. There is some good news, however. Porsche had surgery and is recovering from her injuries. Donations toward her medical expenses are gratefully accepted by Nikeno's Second Chances. Porsche has another month or so of recovery before she can be adopted. I know she'll find a kind and loving home this time.Georgia Cameron, vice president of Nikeno's Second Chances, has set up a Facebook page called Justice for Porsche. She is working with Kansas law enforcement to find the person who did this.According to Ayers' story, “You save a dog like Porsche because it's the right thing to do,” said Cameron. “We’re going to go to the streets and we’re going to find justice for Porsche.”Grrrrrrrr.Chow for now!MarsQuestions or comments for Mars?
