Ross's DogBlog -- Lab Christmas

Chapter 17

December 19, 2008

I was dozing while Marianne was reading her e-mail this morning when I heard some very nice singing. Marianne was smiling and humming along. I sat up to listen.

"What is that?" I asked. "I like it!"

"Me, too," she said. 'It's one of my favorite holiday e-cards and a very jazzy version of "White Christmas" recorded by Clyde McPhatter and the Drifters in 1953." She boosted me into her lap so I had a better view of the computer screen. "See the clever animation? It's by a genius named Joshua Held. It cracks me up every single time I watch it!" We watched the screen together to the end of the song, smiling and tapping along.

"I liked the animation, especially the white reindeer, and the music was great! But the words weren't very relevant to me," I complained.

"And I suppose you could do better?" Marianne asked, raising one eyebrow.

A challenge! OK, so I'm no Irving Berlin, but I came up with my own version. Sing along if you wish!.

LAB CHRISTMAS

I'm dreaming of a Lab Christmas

When humans grant your every wish.

Where stuffed Kongs glisten,

And puppies listen

to hear kibble in the dish.

I'm dreaming of a Lab Christmas

With every Christmas card I chew.

May your toys be squeaky and soft,

And may all your Nylabones be new.

I'm dreaming of a Lab Christmas

With every ornament that I bite.

May your treats be bacon and cheese,

And may all your Christmases a delight.

Chow for now and happy holidays!
