Moms At Work: Getting Your Products To Retail Stores
Mom Invents "Bundle Up Scarves" You Could Soon See In A Store Near You
DENVER -- Caroline Vega-Neff got tired of seeing her kids try to put on scarves before they headed out for school. She said the worst part was watching the scarves drag on the ground and get wet and dirty.
Vega-Neff decided to do something about it. She created her own unique scarf called, appropriately enough, Bundle Up."I never really thought it'd get this big. But I'm really happy it did and my kids can be a part of it," said Vega-Neff.
The Bundle Up Scarves were shorter, easy, and fashionable. There's a loop already made, and you simply put the scarf through it. Vega-Neff made scarves with pink ribbons on them for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This, after a breast cancer scare she had. She wanted to give back, and in that process, it also helped her market her products.
"If you have a great idea and you know it's going to eventually be out there on the market, you'll just kick yourself for not going after it," said Vega-Neff.
Vega-Neff is now approaching retail giants Walmart, Sams Club, and Target to try and get her scarf line on store shelves. She said you have to believe in your product first before you can try and market it. Vega-Neff said she was persistant in calling the retail giants and sending them samples. In the end, she said it paid off.
Vega-Neff said it's not cheap to start your own business. In her case, she found investors to help her start the scarf line. Her kids and neighbors loved them and became walking advertisements for Bundle Up. Now she has a "dog" line as well for family pets.
