Moms At Work: Working Part-Time
10 Til 2 Helps Moms Find Part Time Jobs
DENVER -- There are many career moms who decide to take a step back and become a full-time mom once they have kids. But for those who want to get back in the work force, sometimes they don't even know where to start.
"She came along and it was just a life changing moment for me," said Laura Turner about her daughter.
Turner described herself as a career person. She always put career first, until now. After staying home with her little girl, Devon, she realized she still wanted to work. So she went to 10 Til 2 for help.
"All we do is place people into jobs that are 30 hours or less per week," said Jill Ater, founder of the 10 Til 2 program
It is a job placement service that Ater and some other moms started. They found it was hard to find jobs after moms chose to stay home with their children for a few years. The typical candidate for 10 til 2 is a 39-year-old mom with a four-year degree and kids in elementary school.
In Turner's case, she had a master's degree so she was overqualified for many of the positions out there but 10 til 2 helped her find the right fit, where she could work part-time and still put her daughter first.
"You have to find the right balance," said Turner.
