Parker's DogBlog -- Chapter 25

Halloween Is Coming!

October 15, 2007

Oh my. Just when I think I have humans figured out, something like this happens.

Marianne says there's a howliday -er- holiday this month called Halloween, and humans dress in bizarre things called "costumes." She showed me some pictures of her and some other puppy raisers at past Halloween parties, and boy do they look goofy!

Not content with making themselves look silly, humans also think it's fun to dress their pets in peculiar costumes. Take a look at the attached slide show for photos of me and friends in a variety of costumes. I admit, I do look darned funny in the lobster outfit, but I'm just as glad that I don't have to wear it to work every day. My cape is quite enough, thank you!

My friends over at the Boulder Muttropolis are having a Howl-O-Ween Pooch Party to Benefit The Boulder Valley Humane Society on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Muttropolis is located at the Twenty Ninth Street Shopping District, 1855 Twenty Ninth Street in Boulder.

I hear there will be professional pet portraits (so no one will forget how you looked in that costume!), “barks and crafts,” snacks, product giveaways and a prize drawing.

There will also be a Twenty Ninth Street Pets Parade from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Muttropolis asked me to remind you humans of some Halloween safety tips.

1) Please make sure costumes don't restrain or impair your pet in any way.

2) Don’t force the issue. If Rover doesn't want to be a pirate, Rover shouldn't be a pirate. Not every dog is as tolerant about costumes as I am, and you don't want to frighten poor Rover.

3) We talked about chocolate last week. It is very dangerous to pets. Please make sure you give your pets treats that are made just for them, not people food.

4) Make sure you and Rover are visible if you're outside. Rover can wear a reflective collar or a flashing tag and you should carry a flashlight. This is sensible any time of the year, not just for Halloween! Muttropolis has some nifty safety gear for pets, plus other cool stuff. Check it out!

Happy Halloween, everyone, and Chow for now!

Parker
