Site Makes Finding Sitters Easy

Babysitters, Pet Sitters, Elder Care Just A Click Away

The Web site Care.com launched in May of 2007 and already boasts thousands of users across all 50 states. Think of it as the Match.com of the sitter world.

Parents and pet owners alike can scan the site for a provider using a variety of search tools. The Web site will map out sitters in the area and even run a background check at no additional charge.

In Denver, working mom Tiffany Barnhart is already part of the site's growing clientele. She said she joined Care.com based on her desperation to find a sitter for her daughter, Basha.

"I thought about posting inquiries at coffee shops and other places around the area. I was gonna knock on neighbor's doors," said Barnhart. "There aren't that many people that will accept infants so really your options are limited."

Thankfully, Barnhart said the solution came with a simple click of the mouse. The cost of the site is $10 a month or users can log on once for $25.

If you have a pampered pet, you can find a sitter for them, too.

Johanna Fogel said she hates boarding her 9-year-old cat Pepper but said finding someone reliable to watch Pepper at home isn't always easy.

"Sometimes when you bring them to a boarding kennel or even to your vet they won't eat or they get really stressed out about being caged or having other pets around. It's nice to have someone just come to the house and check on the pet," said Fogel.

Providers were equally pleased with the site.

"It's definitely worth it because, you know, I could use the extra money and I do enjoy working with pets," said one sitter.

Rachel Klohr had so much success she landed a full time gig as Basha Barnhart's nanny. Basha's mom Tiffany no longer has to worry about tracking down infant care.
