'Power Of Two' Connects Couples
Popular Marriage Workshop Gives Couples Tools To Communicate
Ask any married couple and they will say that marriage takes work. When kids, work and school schedules are added to the equation the challenge is even greater. So how do you keep your marriage strong amid the chaos? One Colorado couple tried a marriage workshop in an effort to look for better ways to talk about conflicts without boiling over.
The workshop, called Power of Two: Strategies To A Strong and Loving Marriage, is taught by Denver doctor Abigail Hirsch. She said great marriages aren't a fluke, adding that communication is key and can start with the learned skill of being a good listener. So often one person feels like their partner isn't hearing them, so Hirsch suggests asking "how and why questions.""Because they are really asking for information -- how do you feel about work today, what's happening, a frown on your face -- questions like that," Hirsch said.Couples role play in the workshop and learn which words to use or not to use."The first thing anybody can do is get rid of the word 'but,'" Hirsch said. "'But' just deletes whatever else came first and so it's gonna feel like I'm not being heard."The workshops aims to provide couples with the tools they need to communicate with each other during tense and hectic times. For more information about the marriage workshop, click here.
