Parker's DogBlog - Chapter 2

Parker Starts Puppy Kindergarten

May 24, 2007

Hudson let me try on his extra-large CCI cape before he went off to college. I can't wait until I'm big enough to wear this size! Everybody keeps saying I've grown, but I don't feel bigger. Just because Marianne says "Oof!" every time she picks me up this week, that doesn't mean I'm bigger than last week, does it? She told me that I'm like bread dough and I keep doubling in size, and then she went to see her chiropractor. Huh. I don't see the connection.

I've started CCI school and have been to two puppy classes already. CCI pups start with Pre-Puppy Kindergarten, then we go to Puppy Kindergarten (KPT), then Basic Class, and finally Advanced Class.

I've learned Sit, Down, Shake, and Speak. I like Speak the best, but Marianne doesn't seem to like it when I show her I know how to do it without being asked. Jeez, you'd think she would be pleased I learned it so fast. So yeah, OK, I also know Quiet, No, and Don't.

I'm learning Off too. I hear "Off!" a lot when I try to climb over a baby gate or out of my x-pen. Hey, I just want to be part of the action! How am I supposed to pounce on the other dogs or chase the cats or shred the morning papers if I'm confined in the kitchen?

I'm working on Kennel (I like that one because it means I get a cookie and a nap) and Dress, which is when I have to stand still and let Marianne put on my cape and Gentle Leader. I am not a big fan of the Gentle Leader and try to pull it off when she's not looking, but she catches me every time. The problem with being Puppy No. 5 is that she's hip to the tricks.

My least favorite command so far is Wait. I don't see the point of Wait; I am not a patient puppy. I want what I want when I want it, which is right now! But I have to wait for my food, wait to get out of the kennel, wait to go out a door, blah blah blah.

*SIGH*

Chow for now!
