Give Your Dog Taste Of The Wild

Hikes, Adventure Await Your Dog

Most people agree that their pets are a part of the family. Unfortunately, it's our four-legged friends that end of spending a lot of time home alone.

We've got a few great ideas on how to get them out of the house and into the wild.

A local woman runs a company called Adventure Hounds and it's not your typical doggy daycare.

"A lot of people have come to me from daycares and say, 'Daycare is wonderful but this wears out my dog,'" said Breen. Adventure Hounds provides door-to-door limo service.

Breen takes the dogs to a lake 20 miles north of Denver and lets them run around, dive in the water and play with other dogs.

The dogs get a minimum of two hours of intense exercise.

"Dogs like to be dogs. They like to fetch, swim and hike," said Breen.

If you're looking for something to do on the weekend with your pet, how about a hike?

Local author Ania Savage wrote a book of the best places in Colorado to take your dog.

"I usually pick hikes that will be good for the dogs, that will provide access to water and provide a surface that is not too rough on the dogs paws," said Savage.

Savage's third hiking book highlights 80 Colorado trails.

She said it's a great way to bond with your pet and provide a very different hiking experience.

"He'll tell you where wildlife is, maybe even see a few hazards. It's just a great experience," said Savage.
