Pet Food Recall Keeps Owners On Their Toes

Some Owners Make Their Own Pet Food

As the pet food recall list gets longer and longer, more and more people are taking a closer look at the health of their pet.

This week, 7NEWS is going to tackle some serious issues surrounding pets, including health, exercise and quality of life.

Local veterinarians say some people have given up on the store-bought brands of food and are now making it themselves.

"It's a very good thing if you have a pet owner that is really, really, really devoted," said veterinarian Mac Griffin.

The American Veterinary Medical Association does not recommend it because pet food is complicated.

If you do make your own pet food, make sure you consult your vet and do some serious research. Ever since the recall, the Three Dog Bakery in Cherry Creek has been crawling with concerned pet owners.

"You want to be feeding your dog something that you yourself would want to eat," said owner Mike Gacek.

The local bakery is proud of its all-natural dog food and said more and more people are starting to switch to their brand.

"People are going to realize that there are alternatives. There are many things you can do to extend the lives of that extra part of your family," said Gacek.
