DENVER -- For one Broomfield, it was a dream come true when she received $1,000 from Oprah. But there was a catch and a challenge. She had to spend the money on someone else and videotape the good deed."She gave the entire audience $1,000 and we just had to be creative, open our hearts and spend it on whoever. One person, one family or spend $1 on a 1,000 different people," said Janice Stitzer.
And that's when Stitzer decided to pay it forward with the Coats for Colorado campaign."I want children to have coats during the winter," she said. She picked Wal-Mart for the bargains and but paid close attention to the latest fashion trends. When Wal-Mart heard about what Stitzer was doing, the company decided to give her a matching check for $1,000 --- enough to fill a several more carts with children's clothing and empty a few racks. At checkout, Stitzer got a few weird looks but got out with 88 new coats for kids."This will keep a lot of people warm and happy this winter," she said. All 88 coats will be taken to Flatiron Crossing in Broomfield on Saturday. You too can drop off new and gently used coats on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. And the Dependable Cleaners will match the first 333 new coats dropped off on Saturday so Stitzer's donation will go even further.
