DENVER -- In the spirit of the inspiring series "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," ABC 7 is continuing to make American dreams come true by giving away $50,000 to help Colorado individuals and their local communities in the "Extreme Makeover: American Dream Edition" promotion.

ABC 7 congratulates five Colorado winners on receiving $5,000 toward their American Dream. Five local charities chosen by the winning individuals will also receive $5,000 to put toward the completion of a project that will benefit the local community.

ABC 7 encouraged people to tell their stories or to share the stories of someone they knew who gives of their time to their community and had fallen upon recent economic hardship as a result of the current financial crisis in the United States. Hundreds of nominations poured in and of those, five deserving people were selected.

Beginning on Friday, April 3, ABC 7 will profile each of the Colorado winners and their corresponding charities as part of a new series called "Road to Recovery: Call to Action" during 7NEWS Now at 4 p.m.

The local winners' profile will re-air on 7NEWS at 5 p.m. the following Sunday.
