BYERS, Colo. - Arapahoe County has denied an appeal from the organizers of Riot Fest, who were denied permits to hold their music festival on a farm in Byers.
Last year, the 3-day festival was held at May Farms and drew about 14,000 people to see a lineup of punk and rock bands. On July 11, however, the County’s Zoning Administrator denied permits to hold the festival in the same location this year.
The decision to deny the permit was upheld Wednesday by the Board of Adjustment. They found Riot Fest Corp./Soda Jerk Presents did not successfully show that the decision should be reversed, did not demonstrate adequate parking was available and did not provide evidence that the festival would be unobtrusive to surrounding properties.
After the original application was denied, Riot Fest announced plans to move the event to Sports Authority Field in Denver on September 19 to 21.
