2013 Oscar winner "Les Misérables"
In 1815, convict Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) is released on parole by prison guard Javert (Russell Crowe). A bishop offers Valjean shelter, but he steals his silver. The bishop tells police he gave Valjean the silver. He tells him to accept God.
Eight years pass. Valjean has broken parole but has become an honest man. When it turns out one of his workers, Fantine, (Anne Hathaway) has a daughter out of wedlock, she is dismissed. Valjean later finds her near death, working as a prostitute.
Valjean learns a man believed to be him is about to be condemned. He reveals his identity, saving the man, sits with Fantine as she dies and promises to take care of her daughter, Cosette (later, Amanda Seyfried), barely escaping Javert's wrath.
Valjean finds young Cosette, pays off the corrupt innkeepers she has been living with (Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen) and again narrowly escapes Javert with the child.
Nine years later, revolutionaries are plotting in Paris. Young leader Marius (Eddie Redmayne) spots a grown Cosette and falls in love. Marius' friend, Éponine (Samantha Barks), leads him to her. It turns out Éponine was raised with Cosette as a girl.
As the revolt begins, Valjean and Cosette flee the city. Éponine saves Marius at the cost of her own life. Javert poses as a rebel, but he's exposed and held. When Valjean intercepts a letter from Marius, he goes to the barricades to protect him.
Valjean confronts Javert, pretending to execute him but actually letting him go free. The army overtakes the rebels and everyone is killed except for Marius, who is wounded but saved by Valjean. Javert confronts Valjean again. Javert commits suicide.
Marius and Cosette decide to marry. Valjean reveals his past to Marius and tells him he must leave. But on the couple's wedding day, Marius discovers Valjean was the one who saved him, so he and Cosette go the convent where Valjean is dying.
Valjean confesses his life to Cosette and perceives the spirit of Fantine appearing to take him to Heaven. The movie ends in a rousing musical number at the barricades.
