Oprah Winfrey's breast cancer scare -- it was a false alarm

Here's another reminder about the importance of self breast exams, doctor breast exams and mammograms -- Oprah Winfrey had a breast cancer scare in October.

Winfrey, 58, made the announcement at conference for O magazine readers in Los Angeles last month.

Winfrey told 5,000 attendees and her best friend, Gayle King, simultaneously, that she had a breast cancer scare the week before.

It was ultimately a false alarm.

When King grew visibly upset, one woman chided Winfrey for not telling her friend ahead of time and ordered her to apologize to King, all before an audience, according to the New York Times.

The newspaper did not release any other details about the announcement.

Oprah had not mentioned the breast cancer scare publicly before.
