Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to perform 'Same Love' on The Colbert Report on historic day for gay rights

Civil unions now legally recognized in Colorado

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are scheduled to perform their song "Same Love" on The Colbert Report on the first day civil unions become legal in Colorado.

The unsigned duo behind the breakout hit "Thrift Shop" will perform songs from their latest album "The Heist" on May 1.

“Thrift Shop” made Billboard history becoming the only rap song to spend 12 weeks at the top of the chart.

Last week, another Macklemore & Ryan Lewis song -- “Can’t Hold Us” -- replaced “Thrift Shop” at the Billboard top spot.

The Seattle-based pair are outspoken in their support of gay rights.

"It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference! Live on and be yourself," Macklemore raps in "Same Love." "No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it."
