Justin Bieber makes first public appearance since pot photo scandal at show in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY - Justin Bieber made his first public appearance since TMZ published photos allegedly showing him smoking marijuana.

The teen pop star performed Saturday night in Salt Lake City in front of thousands of adoring fans.

Bieber tweeted that he is "trying to be better" after the marijuana photo scandal.

TMZ claims the pictures they got from an anonymous source shows the teen pop star holding a blunt at a party in a hotel in Newport Beach.

The photos were reportedly taken Jan.2, the day after a photographer was killed trying to take a picture of Bieber's white Ferrari.

Since the photos were published on Jan. 4, Bieber has tweeted several comments that seem to express regret, but don't directly refer to the photo scandal.

On Friday Jan. 5 he tweeted: "everyday growing and learning. trying to be better. u get knocked down, u get up."

He continued: "i see all of u. i hear all of u. i never want to let any of you down. i love u. and..thank u. #beliebers "like i said...2013...new challenges. new doubters...Im ready. We are ready. see u all tomorrow and everyday after that. #BELIEVEtour"
