5K run fights the battle against brain tumors

DENVER - Miles for Hope, a Clearwater based non-profit returns to Denver to help raise funds to fight brain cancer.  The 5K family friendly race is being held April 5 at Sloan's Lake Park.  Registration begins at 9 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be served.

With a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation, the organization has donated more than $300,000 dollars to brain cancer research.

The mission of Miles for Hope is to raise awareness and funding for brain tumor research and clinical trials to provide travel assistance to qualified patients. Miles for Hope President Debbie Turner said, "Through our work, we intend on finding not only treatments that provide a better quality of life for those suffering with a brain tumor, but to find a cure."

The American Cancer Society estimates that 23,380 malignant tumors of the brain or spinal chord will be diagnosed in 2014.
