Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy.  Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in Denver this weekend.  

Friday - Sunday

Arvada Harvest Festival

What: A community tradition since 1925, this free three-day festival will be packed with non-stop entertainment for the whole family.  Highlights include over 100 vendor booths, a garden harvest contest, live music and performers, carnival games, food and beer, plus a Kid’s Zone and a teddy bear picnic on Sunday.  But don’t miss the annual parade Saturday morning, which is known to be the second largest in the state.  

Where:  Olde Town Arvada, 57th and Olde Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada, Colo.

When:  Friday: 5 p.m.-10:30 p.m.; Saturday: 9 a.m.-10:30 p.m.; and Sunday: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

A Day Out with Thomas: The Ready, Set, Go Tour 2016

What:  The event little engineers look forward to each year.  Thomas fans of all ages are invited to spend the day with their favorite No. 1 engine.  This event gives kids an opportunity to ride on board a train lead by Thomas and have their picture taken with Sir Topham Hatt.  Admission includes access to museum exhibits, as well as special Thomas themed activities including a petting zoo, Imagination Station, sing-a-longs, and a magic show. 

Where: Colorado Railroad Museum, 17155 W. 44th Avenue, Golden, Colo.

When: Saturday & Sunday: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (Weekends through Sept. 25th)

Admission: Tickets Range $20-$25 for ages 2 years and older (Tickets are limited; advance purchase recommended.)

Festival Italiano at Belmar

What: This annual two-day celebration of Italian culture will feature some of the finest Italian food, wine and artisan vendors.  While indulging on Italian cuisine, you’ll be entertained by flag throwers from Italy, a bocce tournament, and strolling performers.  Plus kids’ activities, including face painting and the Balistreri Vineyard’s grape stomp.

Where: Belmar, 464 S. Teller Street, Lakewood, Colo.

When: Saturday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Denver Coliseum Mineral, Fossil and Gem Show

What:  This annual show and sale features cool minerals, rare fossils, crystals, gems, artisan jewelry and more.  Exhibitors will fill both floors of the Coliseum, plus spill into 150 tents outside.  From the casual to the serious collector, there is something for everyone at this family friendly event.

Where: Denver Coliseum, 4600 Humboldt Street, Denver, Colo.

When: Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (Daily through Sept. 18th)

Tour de Fat

What: Bikes, beers and bemusement will be abound on Saturday as New Belgium’s annual event takes over City Park.  Dress in costume and grab your bike for a cruise around City Park and down 17th Street.  Following the ride, eclectic entertainment takes over with everything from live music to comedy.  And of course if you’re 21 and older, you’ll have the opportunity to taste from New Belgium’s new and classic beer collection.  Proceeds from beer sales will go to local non-profits.

Where:  West Side of City Park, 2600 E. 17th Avenue, Denver, Colo.

When:  Saturday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Admission: Bike Ride and Festival are free but Bike riders must register.  Beer and food available for purchase.

Denver Art Museum Friendship Powwow & American Indian Cultural Celebration

What: Experience this annual event celebrating the vitality of American Indian cultures.  In addition to visiting the museum, watch colorful American Indian dancers and drum groups entertain the crowds.  You’ll have the opportunity to get your hands dirty with local artist activities, browse vendors and enjoy delicious fry bread.  Powwow activities and general museum admission are free.

RidgeFest 2016

What: A family-friendly festival showcasing the Wheat Ridge Community through homemade food contests, local artisans, food trucks and craft breweries.  Plus, visitors will enjoy live Bluegrass music, a classic car show and more.  And make sure the kids don’t miss the field day games and face painting.
