Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy.  Fall gets into full swing and this weekend is filled with Oktoberfest celebrations and corn mazes galore. Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in Denver this weekend.

Oktoberfest Denver

What:  Grab your stein and head downtown to Oktoberfest Denver, which has been touted as “The Best Oktoberfest” in the United States by USA Today.  This Denver tradition since 1969 commemorates the world-famous and time-honored tradition of German heritage through live music and dance performances, bier-themed activities, and authentic German food. 

Where: Denver’s Historic Ballpark Neighborhood, on Larimer Street between 20th Street and 22nd Street, Denver, Colo.

When: Friday: 5 p.m.-2 a.m.; Saturday: 11 a.m.-2 a.m. and Sunday: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.  (Weekends through Oct. 2nd)

Handmade in Colorado Expo

What:  This annual juried event will showcase Colorado’s best handmade arts, crafts, food and merchandise.  Browse both emerging and experienced artists featuring a vast array of media including metals, paper, fibers, food, fabricated objects, clay, paint, wax, gems and more.  Plus, you’ll enjoy live music while supporting local artists and craftspeople in their pursuit of creativity made by hand.

Where: 16th Street Pedestrian Mall and Skyline Park, Downtown Denver, Colo.

When: Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sunday: 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Longmont Oktoberfest

What:  Oktoberfest season is in full swing across the Front Range this weekend.  The Left Hand Brewing Company leads this favorite fall gathering featuring twelve bands and ten local breweries.  Enjoy live music, German food, craft beer and fun festivities for all ages including a bratwurst eating contest and malt sack races.

Where: Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Avenue, Longmont, Colo.

When: Friday: 4 p.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday: 12 p.m.-10 p.m.

Centennial Chalk Art Festival

What:  Watch in awe as local artists turn ordinary pavement into beautiful works of art, using simple pastel chalk.  As the paintings come to life, you’ll also enjoy live music, food trucks and family fun at this annual two day event.

When: Saturday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Maize in the City

What:  Get into the fall spirit at this favorite attraction that opens for the season this weekend.  Navigate your way through the 20+ acre Crazed Corn Maze. Pick out the perfect pumpkin with your family.  And enjoy other kid-friendly activities like bouncy castles, pony rides, a petting zoo and more.

Where: Maize in the City, 10270 Riverdale Road, Thornton, Colo.

When: Monday – Friday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday - Sunday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. (Daily through Oct. 31st)

Admission: Crazed Maze Tickets: $12 – Adults; $9 – Kids 5-12 years; Kids 4 years and under are free.

Morrison Ciderfest

What:  There will be fun for the whole family at the Morrison Ciderfest.  Enjoy arts and craft vendors, food and drink, kid’s activities, hay and pony rides, a custom car show, and live music featuring local favorites the Atomic Drifters. 

Where: On the grounds of Bear Creek Care and Rehab, Highway 8 and Summer Street in Downtown Morrison, Colo.

HOOTenanny 2016

What: Check out Whoooo flies in the night skies at the Audubon Nature Center this weekend. See live owl demonstrations, browse owl-themed crafts and activities, and other family fun activities.  Plus local bluegrass music from Coat Town Reunion and food truck fare.   

Where: Audubon Nature Center at Chatfield, 11280 Waterton Road, Littleton, Colo.

When: Saturday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Bonus Things To Do:  Looking for a more low-key Oktoberfest celebration?  Head to Denver’s South Pearl Street Saturday afternoon for a quaint, yet authentic atmosphere.  The Washed Ashore exhibit opens this weekend at the Denver Zoo.  And it’s the last weekend to check out the Butterflies at Chatfield Farms.
