Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy.  St. Patty’s Day may still be a week away, but the celebrations start this weekend.  Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in Denver this weekend.  

Friday

Denver Nuggets vs. Boston Celtics

What: The Nuggets are at home to face the Boston Celtics Friday night.  Cheer on our hometown team as they fight for that final Western Conference playoff spot.

Where: Pepsi Center, 1000 Chopper Circle, Denver, Colo.

When: Friday: 7 p.m.

World Spider Day

What:  No arachnophobia at this event.  Celebrate World Spider Day and explore the web of possibilities at the Butterfly Pavilion this Saturday. Learn about the benefits these eight-legged wonders bring to our environment through crafts, games, special demonstrations, live animal encounters, and a visit from everyone’s favorite spider superhero.  All special spider activities are included with your general admission ticket.

Where: Butterfly Pavilion, 6252 West 104th Avenue, Westminster, Colo.

When: Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Admission: $11 – Adults; $9 – Seniors; $7– Kids 2-12 years; Kids under 2 are free (Member discounts available.)

17 Mile House Farm Park Open House

What: Step back in time with a tour of this 155-year old farm, once used as a rest stop for pioneers traveling in the 1860’s.  Learn about this historic property and its significance to Colorado history from volunteers of the Cherry Creek Valley Historical Society.  Plus, special demonstrations including wool spinning, quilting, butter churning and more.  

Where:  17 Mile House Farm Park, 8181 S. Parker Road, Centennial, Colo.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

What: St. Patty’s Day isn’t until next week, but Denver likes to start the celebration early.  Head downtown for the 55th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade that will wind its way through LoDo.  You’ll see why it’s touted as the largest St. Patty’s Day Parade west of the Mississippi.  Wear your green and arrive early to get a good spot.  You won’t want to miss a second of this festive, family-fun event.

Where: LoDo, Downtown Denver, Colo.

When: Saturday: 9:30 a.m.

Hops + Handrails 2017

What:  Back for a fifth year, this hybrid event features what Colorado does best - craft beer, winter sports and live music. Hops + Handrails will feature over 65 craft breweries alongside a 40-foot high snowboard ramp and rail jam competition, plus live music with rock and blues headliner, the Chris Robinson Brotherhood.  All ages are welcome. And kids can check out the Riglet park which will have junior boards and instructors on hand. 

Where:  Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Avenue, Longmont, Colo.

When:  Saturday: 12 p.m.-6 p.m.

Admission: Rail Jam and Concert General Admission: $15 – Adults; $10 – Kids 6-12 years; Kids 5 years and under are free. (General Admission plus Beer Fest ticket for the 21-years and older crowd are $40.)

St. Patrick’s Day Festival

What: Everyone’s Irish at this family-friendly St. Patty’s Day festival.  Featuring a full afternoon of entertainment including Irish pipe bands and step dancing, food and drink, craft vendors, a kids’ activity zone and more.

Where: Olde Town Arvada, Grandview and Olde Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada, Colo.

When: Saturday: 12 p.m.-6 p.m.

World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade

What: Want to cut to the chase and get your Irish on?  This is a parade so short you’ll want to walk the full, one block route yourself.  Family fun will continue after the parade with activities for the kids, plus traditional Irish music and dance, food and drink.

Where: Pearl Street Mall, 13th Street between Walnut and Spruce, Boulder, Colo.

When: Sunday: 12 noon
