Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy. Whether you are celebrating with your Valentine or ignoring the day altogether, there are plenty of things to entertain any mood.  Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in Denver this weekend.

The Denver Dog Show

What: It’s a warm-up for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!  Over 3000 dogs will compete in conformation, rally, agility and obedience.  Pick up a special treat for your favorite pooch at one of the vendor booths, tour an AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer, and more.   You’ll be able to watch the dogs perform each day, and visit with dog owners and breeders, in case you are trying to find the breed that best fits their lifestyle.  

Where: National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt Street, Denver, Colo.

When: Thursday – Monday: Doors open at 7:30 a.m. (Check website for event schedule.)

Admission: $5 – Adults; Kids under 12 are free.

Orchid Showcase

What: It’s not Valentine’s Day without flowers.  Explore a floral wonderland at the Denver Botanic Gardens’ annual Orchid Showcase.  You’ll smell the love in the air from the hundreds of orchid blooms spread among the fragrant citrus collections in the Orangery and Marnie’s Pavilion. 

Where:  Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York Street, Denver, Colo.

When: Daily: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.  (Exhibit runs through Feb. 22nd)

Admission: General Admission: $12.50 – Adults; $9 – Kids 3-15 years old (Members and kids 2 years and under are free.)  *Enjoy free admission on Monday.

Hammond’s Candy Factory Tour

What: Get your Valentine candy fix at Colorado’s very own Hammond’s Candy Factory.  Free factory tours run every half-hour Monday through Saturday.  Watch candy makers as they hand-pull and twist oversize candy canes, ribbon candy, lollipops and chocolate.  It’s educational fun for candy lovers of all ages.  And bonus, every tour guest gets a free candy sample.

Loveland Fire & Ice Festival

What: The nation’s Sweetheart City is lighting the town this Valentine’s Day weekend.   This family-friendly celebration will feature street vendors, live music and entertainment, and a valentine-inspired light and firework show to end each night.  Watch as ice blocks are transformed into works of art during the live sculpting competition on Saturday and Sunday, take your special someone on a romantic carriage ride, or take advantage of the numerous deals offered by local retailers.

Monster Jam 2016

What: Witness breathtaking stunts and awesome power at Monster Jam 2016.   Fan favorites including Grave Digger, Doom’s Day, and Monster Mutt will bring you to your feet as they race and rip up the custom-designed track full of obstacles to soar over, or smash through.

Four Mile Historic Park Free Day

What: It’s a free day at the Four Mile Historic Park.  You’ll feel like you’ve traveled back in time as you wander this 1859 farm.  Pan for gold, meet the farm animals and more.   You can enjoy free admission at this Denver landmark on the second Friday of each month.

Colorado Garden & Home Show
