Homestead Holidays

What: Check out Golden’s newest holiday tradition. Clear Creek History Park has been set aglow for the holidays.  Stroll through this scenic three-acre park in downtown Golden, gazing at the thousands of twinkling lights that illuminate the trees and historic buildings. 

Where: Clear Creek History Park, 11th Street and Arapahoe, Golden, Colo. 

When: Open Nightly, from sunset to midnight (Runs through Jan. 25th)

Living Lights

What:  Take a fantastical journey through an indoor twinkling tropical rainforest or an outdoor adventure through glowing gardens featuring larger-than-life sculptures.  Interactive exhibits will feature live animals, and give you the opportunity to learn about these “Living Lights,” bioluminescent and luminescent animals, along the journey.  

Where: Butterfly Pavilion, 6252 West 104th Avenue, Westminster, Colo.

When: Thursdays - Sundays: 6 p.m.-9 p.m. (Weekends through Jan. 10th. Check website for specific dates.)

Admission: $10 – Adults; $8 – Seniors; $6 – Kids (2 to 12 years); Kids under 2 are free (Member discounts available.)

Pavilions Holiday Carousel

What: Take a ride on the holiday carousel, which will take up residence at the Denver Pavilions beginning this weekend.  Adding to the splendor of the holiday season in Downtown Denver, this family-friendly attraction will bring smiles to faces of all ages.

Where: Denver Pavilions, Downtown Denver, 16th Street and Glenarm, Denver, Colo.

When: Open Daily: 9 a.m.-10 p.m. (Beginning Friday through Dec. 23rd)

Admission: $3 (Ride for free with a canned food donation benefiting Food Bank of the Rockies.)

Hammond’s Candy Cane Festival

What:  This is an annual holiday tradition the whole family will love.  Enjoy sweet festivities including cookie decorating, hot cocoa, holiday crafts and games, carolers, a bounce house, a visit with Santa, and more.   Plus, you can squeeze in a mini tour of the factory as well. 

Where: Hammond’s Candies, 5735 N. Washington Street, Denver, Colo.

When:  Friday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Thornton WinterFest

What: This annual event transforms Carpenter Park Fields into Santa’s Village complete with elves, holiday lights and Santa himself.  A variety of fun winter activities will fill the weekend including ice skating, tree decorating, ice-carving demo, children’s crafts and entertainment, a holiday marketplace and more.  Food and drink will also be available for purchase.  And don’t miss the holiday fireworks that will light up the sky Saturday night.   

Where: Carpenter Park Fields, 108th Avenue and Colorado Blvd., Thornton, Colo.

When: Friday: 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday: 5 p.m.-9 p.m. (Check website for schedule of events)

Admission: Free (Ice skating costs a nominal fee)

Rocky Mountain Train Show

What:  It’s touted as the largest train show west of the Mississippi, featuring over 120,000 square feet of model train displays.  The Rocky Mountain Train Show will impress train lovers of all ages.  Browse over hundreds of toy trains for sale, gaze in awe at the working model train displays, or sit in on a how-to clinic covering topics from setting up your first model train set to real railroad operations.  And be sure the kids visit the Kids Corner, which will be full of hands-on fun for the little conductors.

Where:  Denver Mart, 451 East 58th Avenue, Denver, Colo.

When:  Saturday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Admission: $9 – Adults; Kids under 12 years, Scouts in uniform and Active Duty Military are free.

Snow Much Fun

What:  Bring the family for a stroll through Boulder’s Central Park, amid the more than 200,000 LED lights that will illuminate the trees. And this Saturday enjoy a special treat in addition to the lights, as Boulder Parks and Recreation host free festive activities like cookie decorating, hot cocoa, train rides, music entertainment, and other reindeer games.   

Where: Central Park, 1236 Canyon Blvd, Boulder, Colo.
