SIR ELTON JOHN has thanked fans for their well wishes after he was diagnosed with appendicitis, insisting their support plays "a big part" in his recovery.
The Rocket Man hitmaker was struck down with crippling stomach cramps during his recent European tour, but he fought through the pain to play a number of gigs until doctors told him he was suffering with the inflammatory condition.
Sir Elton scrapped the rest of his concert commitments to recuperate and he has now reached out to his fans to thank them for their overwhelming support.
In a message on his website, he writes, "I would like to thank the literally thousands of people who have sent me get well cards and messages over the past two weeks. Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery.
"I cannot wait to see you all and thank you in person when I resume my concert schedule later this year. In the meantime, please know that I consider myself a very blessed man to have such caring and considerate fans."
The 66 year old was given a course of antibiotics and was reported to need an operation, but it is not known if he has undergone the procedure. The star is set to return to the stage in September (13).
