WASHINGTON - A Colorado teenager is among the ten finalists to become the nation's top geography whiz in the finals of the National Geographic Bee.
The winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands, among other prizes.
Pranit Nanda, of Aurora Quest K-8 School in Aurora, outlasted 44 others during Monday's preliminary rounds, answering questions about history, world cultures, landmarks and climates.
Nanda is 14. He represented Colorado at the 2012 and 2013 National Geographic Bees. He’s a four-time winner of the President’s Award for Academic Excellence. He plays the violin and enjoys reading almanacs and atlases.
The Wednesday final will air Thursday night on National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD.
