MTV is moving to Vail.

MTV Networks announced Tuesday that it will launch a high-definition channel at the beginning of next year and will broadcast live from Vail for four months.

"A custom-built studio will be located on top of Vail Mountain's Eagle Nest at 10,350 feet above sea level and will be home to all original programming created specifically for the HDTV network," the network said in a press release.

The HDTV channel will be called MHD (Music High Definition) and will launch Jan. 16. The channel will feature music videos and shows from MTV, VH1 and CMT.

"Early on, we identified a strong demand for a music channel presented in HDTV," said Tony Dunaif Sr., vice president of business development for MTV Networks. "Part of creating a channel that lives up to this technology is finding a studio location that showcases the programming in the most visually compelling way. I don't think we could have found a better locale to give viewers a spectacular backdrop for MHD than Vail and the Colorado Rockies."

"It will be like a mountaintop concert, free in your living room," said Dunaif.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase skiing and snowboarding in Colorado, and we truly appreciate being selected as the backdrop to launch MHD," said Bill Jensen, chief operating officer of Vail Resorts.

The glass-walled studio on Vail Mountain will be where Colorado native and current mtvU personality George Oliphant will host new and original shows, hold live in-studio events and interview musicians and bands.

Olympic skier Jeremy Bloom will be one of the video jockeys after he returns from the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turino, Italy.

MTV will broadcast from Vail Mountain until ski season ends April 15. The studio equipment is being brought up Vail Mountain by Snowcat because there are no roads during the winter.
