'The Bachelor' Dumps One Coloradan, Keeps Another
British Bachelor Matt Grant visited four women and their families in their hometowns in last night's episode, but in the end Loveland's Noelle was left without a rose. The show started with Matt visiting Shayne and her parents. He met her father, actor Lorenzo Lamas, and her mother later, since they're divorced.According to ABC's Web site, Shayne told Matt the meeting was a really big deal since her father's only met one of her previous boyfriends -- and he didn't approve!
Matt was butchering her last name, so she coached him on how to pronounce it: Lom-iss.Lorenzo told Matt that his daughter, and her feelings, are very important to him. He also admitted he was surprised to hear that she wanted to be on "The Bachelor" and that the idea of being on television was "very enticing" to her as she "really wants to be a star."Shayne was hurt by his comment and insisted she was there only for Matt.Lorenzo also warned Matt not to toy with Shayne's feelings, particularly because Lorenzo wasn't there enough for her as a child. The next two hometowns visits brought Matt to Colorado.First to Chelsea in Durango. They met on a snowy bench outside.Chelsea's segment seemed a bit short on a program. Viewers only saw Matt and Chelsea having dinner with her family. Watching the final credits, you can see they did more, including visiting a photographer's shop where they dressed up and took an old western style photo.During dinner Chelsea told her parents how much she loves Matt's sarcasm.Matt assured her father he really is looking to settle down and explained how his father's stroke helped that along. He also said he's always been into Chelsea but isn't as sure if she's into him.Her father made a toast to "finding happiness."Matt's next hometown date took him to Noelle's family in Loveland. Matt and Noelle rode horses at the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch, then ate at a picnic table with her family.Noelle's dad, Larry, asked Matt "what kind of person" goes on a dating show and admitted he was skeptical about anyone Noelle would bring home.Over dinner, Noelle's mother asked if Matt intended to remain in England and he said he was flexible about where he lives. As the youngest of five boys, he said he is really ready to settle down. "I married my best friend and you can't do any better than that," says Larry.Noelle's two sisters took Matt aside to make sure he genuinely liked Noelle. He admitted he was close to falling in love, but added, "I'm not going to lie to you," and said that feeling extended to more than one person. The final date was a surprise. Matt went to Tallahassee, Fla., to meet Amanda's family. But he didn't meet her family right away.Amanda hired actors to play her mom and dad. Matt was taken aback at the mother's exaggerated reactions to everything he said, especially her hearty laugh at odd moments. She urged him to flex his muscles and he refused. Then her "dad" asked if he and Amanda have been physically intimate. Amanda said it was so awkward that if she had been in Matt's place, she would have just walked out.She eventually brought out her real parents for dinner with Matt. Since her stunt took up all the time they might have spent alone, Amanda arranged to visit Matt in his suite later that evening. He told her the prank was the best one he's ever had pulled on him and that he finds her "extraordinary" and kissed her.At the rose ceremony, Matt had three roses and four women. When it was time to give out the final rose, the two women from Colorado were left vying against each other. The final rose went to Chelsea, who was visibly relieved, while Noelle fought back tears at being left without one.Matt took Noelle outside to explain his decision. According to ABC's Web site, Matt said he thinks Noelle's is incredible but that their connection just got started too late."I take the blame for that," she told him. Matt said he was "so pleased" to have met her and that he thinks this "scenario" is just not suited to her. He hugged her goodbye.Next week, Grant and the remaining three bachelorettes travel to Barbados.Read more about Noelle's hometown visit in the Fort Collins Coloradan or read an episode recap on ABC's Web site.
