BOULDER, Colo. -- The University of Colorado is investigating a death threat against one of its student leaders.Campus police told 7NEWS that a racial hate letter was e-mailed to Mebraht Gebre-Michael, one of three students elected to lead the student government. The e-mail, which Gebre-Michael received Tuesday, began by stating that black students "don't belong" and should "disappear off our campus."
It concluded by threatening Gebre-Michael's life: "You will die if you run for student government again," the e-mail said."Such hate-filled words do not reflect the values of this campus community. When any member is attacked with such a vicious message, we all are attacked," said CU interim chancellor Phi DiStefano. The university said it has launched a full investigation and will use all available technology to identify the sender of the e-mail.If the sender is found to be a student, he or she will be subject to our disciplinary process through the Office of Judicial Affairs, as well as any appropriate criminal justice outcomes, said DiStefano. In March, several students filed complaints with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People about racial slurs and threats at CU.
