The staff at four schools got more than a pat on the back for their students' good work -- they got bonus checks.

On Monday, their names were read out loud and the crowd applauded as each person at Kearney Middle School in Commerce City was given a check.

Adams County School District 14 is one of the only school districts that gives out bonuses to employees when students' score from the Colorado State Assessment tests improve.

The bonus checks, which ranged from $1,500 to $2,000, go to teachers, nutrition workers, building engineers and bus drivers.

The checks were given to the staff at Kearney, Alsup Elementary, Rose Hill Elementary and Sanville 3 C's Preschool.
