BOULDER, Colo. -- The chair of the University of Colorado Board of Regents said Wednesday he will encourage the regents not to look for an interim president to succeed Betsy Hoffman who is slated to step down on June 30. Regents chairman Jerry Rutledge issued a statement Wednesday morning revealing his decision, but did not elaborate on the reasons behind the move.
"We welcome her continued strong and steady leadership during this time, the statement said, in part. Hoffman announced March 7 that she would step down from her post at the end of June, or sooner if a successor is chosen. Her resignation comes amid an ongoing football recruiting scandal, national criticism of an ethnic studies professor and budget problems."The University of Colorado has confronted many challenges in the last year, but CU remains one of the nation’s top public teaching and research universities," the statement from Rutledge said. "We will continue to build on that very strong and proud past, and we look forward to a bright future of teaching, research and service to Colorado and beyond."
