LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Schools across Colorado are hoping for perfect attendance Wednesday. That's because Wednesday is the day students are counted by the state, which determines how much money districts will get. Some schools provide incentives like special activities in order to get kids excited about count day.
There is an exception. If a child is sick Wednesday, they can still be counted as long as they were in class prior to Oct. 1, and return to class before Oct. 30.
