Attendance This Wednesday Crucial To Schools

Wednesday Is 'Count Day'

Schools across Colorado are pushing to make sure they have perfect attendance this Wednesday.

That's because Oct. 1 is what the Colorado Department of Education calls "Count Day," the day that determines the official number of students in each school district. The state then gives each district a certain amount of money based on their count.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, districts will get $6,334 to $12,566 from the state this year for every student enrolled and attending class on Oct. 1. The larger dollar amounts go to rural districts, where small numbers of students mean higher operating costs per student.

If your child doesn't go to school on Wednesday, the school can still get credit. The district has to prove your child was in school during the week before or the week after "count day."
