Nevada is planning a rebate program this spring to help residents replace older, inefficient appliances with energy-efficient appliances.

The state will offer mail-in rebates toward the purchase of Energy Star-qualified appliances starting April 17 and continuing until funds are depleted.

Eligible appliances and rebates are as follows:
  • Refrigerators - $200
  • Freezers - $150
  • Washing machines - $150
  • Dishwashers - $100

Customers must purchase from participating retailers, a list of which will be available on the Nevada State Office of Energy Web site. These retailers must deliver new appliances to consumers and pick up old appliances for recycling.

Consumers will be able to obtain rebate applications from the NSOE Web site. The completed application will need to be submitted to a rebate service provider, along with proof of an old appliance pickup.

Rebates will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis and are limited to one of each eligible appliance per household.

The program is one of 56 State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs, popularly known as Cash for Appliances, that are being set up in the United States and six U.S. territories with the help of federal stimulus money.

Nevada will receive about $2.5 million of the nearly $300 million in stimulus funding available nationwide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
