Thousands of people will be flying into and out of Denver International Airport convention week. Airport officials say pack some patience, plan ahead and monitor your airline for flight delays or cancellations. Obviously, we will not see a snowstorm close down the airport but severe weather can cause temporary flight delays with microburst winds or lightning.

The recommendations about arriving for your flight 90 to 120 minutes before departure still apply. Peak delays are expected the weekend before the DNC as delegates arrive and local vacationers head out Friday after the convention comes to a close.

Traffic along Pena Boulevard will be a little busier than normal, similar to the holidays, but should move well. Parking should not be a problem as the visitors will not be using the airport lots.

To get up to date info on flights and parking the airport website is a good place to start, FlyDenver.com.

QUICK TIPS:

  • Plan on extra time to check in and to get through security
  • Avoid the busiest times especially the Friday after the convention
  • If you ride RTD you may have large bags or luggage searched
  • To check for flight or parking delays check your airline's Web site
