If you still need a converter box, Consumer Reports recommends the Zinwell Zat for $45, the Tivax STB-T9 for $50, and the STB-T8, for $65.

All of these models have VCR timers and analog pass through, which means you would still be able to receive programming from a low-powered station.

Consumer Reports also liked the DTV Pal from Dish Network for $60 and the TR-40 CRA for $45.

For best picture quality, Consumer Reports liked Channelmaster CM-7000, which can be purchased for about $48.
