The McGraw-Hill Companies on Thursday announced the appointment of Darrell K. Brown as president of McGraw-Hill Broadcasting and Byron F. Grandy as station manager at KMGH-TV in Denver.

Brown, 52, is currently vice president and general manager of KMGH, one of four ABC affiliate stations in the Broadcasting Group. Brown succeeds Edward J. Quinn, who will retire following a distinguished 22-year career at McGraw-Hill Broadcasting.

With Brown moving out of his current position, Grandy will move up to take his spot as station manager of KMGH. Grandy is currently news director at KMGH.

McGraw-Hill Broadcasting includes four ABC-affiliate stations (including KGTV in San Diego, Calif., WRTV in Indianapolis, and KERO in Bakersfield, Calif.), three Spanish-language Azteca America affiliates, and the stations' Web sites, including TheDenverChannel.com.

"Darrell brings to his new role strong leadership experience, deep expertise in the broadcasting industry and extensive knowledge of our local markets," said Glenn S. Goldberg, president of McGraw-Hill Information and Media.

Brown has been vice president and general manager of KMGH and Azteca America Colorado since November 2003. He joined the corporation in 1983 at KGTV in San Diego, where he held various sales and management positions before being named general manager in 1997, overseeing all sales and editorial activities.

Brown currently serves as a vice chair of the ABC Television Affiliates Association's Board of Governors. He holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Brigham Young University.

Grandy, 47, joined McGraw-Hill Broadcasting as news director of KMGH in December 2000. During his tenure, 7NEWS has been honored with the prestigious George F. Peabody and Alfred I. DuPont awards for excellence in journalism along with recognition from the Associated Press, the Heartland Regional Emmys and Colorado Broadcasters Association.

"In his eight years at KMGH, Byron has developed a deep understanding of our local market and is especially well prepared to deploy traditional and new technologies to serve our customers' evolving media needs," said Brown.

As station manager, Grandy will be responsible for the strategy and day-to-day editorial and business operations of KMGH-TV, Azteca America Colorado, and the station's digital properties.

Prior to joining KMGH, Grandy was news director at KMOL-TV in San Antonio, Texas. He also served as director of news and talent development for The Broadcast Image Group, a broadcast consulting firm, and was the news director position at WAGT-TV in Augusta, Ga. He has also worked as a reporter and anchor at stations in Milwaukee, Dallas and Bryan, Texas.

Grandy holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
