Steelers, 14-Year Veteran Ward May Part Ways
Ward Received MVP Honors For Super Bowl XL
Despite his 14 seasons with the team and willingness to accept a pay cut, wide receiver Hines Ward might have played his last game for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that representatives for Ward have yet to be contacted by the club. That news came one day after NFL.com reported that the Steelers plan to sever ties with the 35-year-old Ward.
A third-round pick of Pittsburgh in 1998, Ward had 46 catches and two touchdowns this season. It marked his lowest reception total since his rookie season.Ward is scheduled to make $4 million this season, a salary the Steelers would be unlikely to pay given their depth at the position. The Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XL, Ward has 1,000 career receptions in 14 seasons with Pittsburgh.
