LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Two Iowa teens were arrested for allegedly making an Internet threat to the students at Columbine High School, police said Friday.
A woman told Lakewood police on Sunday that she was in an Internet chat room corresponding with others when one person in the room said, "I'm bringing a gun to school on Tuesday to kill everyone that thinks that it's Dylan's fault he killed himself."
The Dylan referred to in the posting is Dylan Klebold, who joined Eric Harris in an April 1999 shooting rampage at Columbine High School that killed 13 people.
The woman printed out the chat room conversation and showed it to authorities, who with the help of people at Yahoo and several Internet service providers, tracked down the origin of the threat to Birmingham, Iowa.
Local authorities in Birmingham arrested a juvenile suspect and seized his computer equipment and related evidence. They also were led to a home in Fairfield, Iowa where they arrested another teen.
The case will be turned over to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for review. The juveniles may face charges of inciting destruction of life and property and harassment.
"The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office takes a very serious approach to all incidents involving Internet crime," spokesman Jacki Tallman said in a press release. "We will continue to track, investigate and pursue charges in all incidents that meet Colorado Revised Statute."
