'Pepsi Bear' Captured In Pueblo

Bear Breaks In To Bottling Plant To Eat Raspberry-Tea Syrup

POSTED: 9:45 a.m. MDT August 14, 2001

A Colorado bear with a sweet tooth will be relocated to the mountains after he was caught eating syrup at a Pepsi Cola Bottling plant in Pueblo.

Employees spotted the bear sleeping in the warehouse on Monday and called the Division of Wildlife.

Wildlife officers said that it probably is the same bear they saw outside the warehouse on August seventh.

Workers said that the bear set off alarms inside the building over the weekend. They investigated and found footprints and puddles of raspberry-tea syrup used in restaurant drink dispensers. The bear apparently drank about four gallons of the syrup.

Division of Wildlife manager Al Trujillo said that the bear had not been tagged before, so it will be relocated to a remote area, but he's not sure yet where that will be.
