Telemarketing Bill Killed By Senate Committee

Measure Is Rejected By Slim 6-5 Margin

The House Business Affairs Committee voted 6-5 Tuesday to kill the latest version of the so-called telemarketing bill.

Senate Bill 93 was designed to combat telephone solicitations by establishing a no-call list for telephone solicitations.

The bill had easily passed through the Colorado Senate earlier this year, but lost momentum by the time it reached the House.

JoAnn Groff of the Colorado Retail Council told the committee Tuesday that the new bill duplicates a no-call list already being used on the national level.

"We don't think that it's necessary," she told lawmakers. "There are a number of ways for consumers to get their names on do-not-call lists."
